Enjoy Making A Burlap Wreath By Following Several Simple Steps

When most people think about the material burlap they immediately envision feed sacks and other rustic imagery.

However it is not complicated to turn this material into a decorative wreath that can be placed around your home anytime of the year. A burlap wreath is an excellent addition to any plain wall, inside or outside door and you can take a lazy weekend afternoon to make a burlap wreath that you will be proud of and will impress your friends and family.

You will need to first decide the color of burlap that you would like to use when making your wreath. If you have a neutral décor, beige burlap may be the best option for you. If you want the wreath to stand out in your decorative scheme you can choose different colored burlap.

The Materials That You Will Need

The next thing that you will need to do is gather the materials that you will need to make the wreath. The list should include:

•    The burlap material
•    Scissors
•    Ribbon
•    Glue gun
•    Foam wreath

The Process To Make The Burlap Wreath

Once you have gathered the materials that you need you can then begin to construct the wreath. You will need to cut the material into square pieces. Make sure that these pieces measure five inches all around.

After the material has been cut into equal square pieces you can take one piece and fold it in two halves. The finished square should be at least four layers deep.

You will then take the glue gun and place some glue on the center folded piece of the square. The glued end of the material can then be placed on the wreath. Be sure to hold the material firmly in place until the burlap sticks to the foam wreath.

This process can then be repeated with each square until the foam wreath has been completely covered in the burlap squares.

Make sure that the burlap dries on the wreath before you begin the process of fluffing the squares.

Once your wreath has dried you can take the ribbon and tie it around the wreath and hang the wreath in the desired location.

Making burlap wreaths can be an enjoyable project that the entire family can participate in. These wreaths are popular during the autumn and winter months but they can be used as decorations in the home anytime of the year.

Enjoy Spending Time With Your Child By Making A Leaf Book

When the summer heat gives way to slightly cooler temperatures the leaves begin to fall off of the trees and die. This time of year provides the perfect opportunity for your child to learn more about nature, specifically trees and the leaves that they bear.

You can choose to have your children make one large leaf book together or they can create individual leaf books. Children of all ages will appreciate the beauty and visual appeal of these books and the books can be created with common household items.

This is one of our favorite fall activities that we do each year. (And then I dispose of the project sometime around Valentine's Day.)

Gather The Necessary Materials

The first thing that you will need to do is gather the materials that will be needed to complete the project. The list of items includes:

•    Leaves
•    Scrapbook
•    Pen
•    Sandwich bags
•    Cement (rubber)
•    Card stock

There are also optional items that you can use to make the leaf book including scissors. Children should always be supervised when using scissors or other sharp objects.

How To Make A Leaf Book With Older Children

Older children will be able to take a more active role in the creation of the leaf book so you will not have to provide as much hands on assistance as you would have to for younger children. My kids are finally self-sufficient enough that they don't want help anymore.

The first thing that you will need to do is purchase a scrapbook. Scrapbooks are available in several varieties including spiral and bound. These scrapbooks are also constructed with acid free paper so the leaves will remain preserved in the scrapbook for a long period of time.

You can then schedule a leaf hunt with your children. Taking a long walk along a nature trail, local park or even in your neighborhood will provide plenty of leaves for your child to choose from. Make sure the leaves that are selected are not dead but still on the trees. Place all collected leaves into sandwich bags.

Once you are home you and your children can begin placing the leaves into the scrapbook. You can use glue or rubber cement to secure the leaves onto the pages of the scrapbook. The leaves can be categorized by color, shape or style. Make sure that you or your children write the name of the tree that each leaf belonged to under the leaf.

The change of seasons from summer to autumn is the perfect time of year to not only enjoy the fall foliage but you can also educate your children. Making a leaf book will give your children the chance to learn more about nature.

Changing Up Routines As The Seasons Start To Shift

I love changing up things when the seasons change. As it gets colder and the holidays roll around, we tend to feel more stressed. But a few mindful changes in your habits can be rejuvenating. Here are some tips to allow you to prepare for the end of fall and the beginning of winter.

Do a Clothing Check

Make it a point to check that you and your family have the right kind of clothes for whatever season it is. Sometimes there will be many days where it's cold in the morning, but warm in the afternoon. That's probably the only time you'll need to worry about wearing different clothes depending on the time of day. Start getting out some winter clothes to be able to layer appropriately.

Make sure to get your winter shopping done when it's fall, and then get your summer shopping done when spring starts to come around. It pays to be prepared so you're not stuck in clothing that doesn't work for you. If you are super prepared, you may have shopped at the end of last season. Be sure to pull out all that winter stuff and evaluate it.

I always like to know if I should put items on the Christmas lists for the kids like jammies, mittens, or extra socks. The grandmas always like to pick out a new shirt for the kids so I like to know what color or size they will need around January or February.

Update Your Skin Care

You should consider things like how dry your skin is going to be in the winter. You may want to get a new special lotion to help you avoid dry skin. Also remember, just like in the summer you have to protect your skin with sunscreen. Be sure to buy a new bottle of your favorite. The stock of sunscreen tends to not be as good during the winter.

I also like to buy a new foundation in the fall. Sometimes I get a new Burt Bees lip gloss. It doesn't have to be expensive to update your makeup.

I don't like to wear moisturizer on my face during the summer. The fall is the perfect time to see if you'll need something new. I like to use coconut oil as a lotion too. Usually, I feel better throwing out the jar that sat all summer long without being used. (I just forget to use it...don't know why.)

Update Your Routines

I like to make sure the kids get out earlier in the afternoon to get some playtime in. Although it isn't too cold yet, I don't really like to let them run around the neighborhood after dark.

Sunshine is important to me. I like to start scheduling a walk over lunch to make sure I can see the sun everyday. If I don't...then the time just slips by and I'm a crabby mom in the dark evening.

I hope that jump-started you thinking about what routines you can change up this fall. You'll feel great when you're done with this and everything will fall into place for you!

Create a Place to Relax in Your Own Home

In the modern world, modern moms and families are very busy and often feel as though they have to be connected to the media at all times. Cell phones and laptop computers mean that many people are attached to them all day, in case they miss something important.

Unfortunately, what many families (including mom especially) need is to get a break from all of that. A quiet and peaceful sanctuary to be alone and unwind. If you want to do this, you can, right in your own home. It doesn't take many minutes each week to help you feel more relaxed. Often, it's harder to convince yourself you have the time than it is to actually find a spare 15 minutes.

The first thing you need to do is decide where you want it to be. You may prefer the bathroom, where you can take a long lingering bath. If you have extra room elsewhere, that may be preferable for you.

Once you know where, decide what you want to do. Do you enjoy scented candles or incense? What type of music do you find relaxing? You want all of your senses engaged. So, you may choose to have a glass of wine or a mug of hot chocolate. What about your skin, think about a gentle massage oil or a warm snugly blanket.

When you begin to see the sanctuary in your mind, start to create it. Gather the items you need and set aside a special time. You will need to let others know that you will not be available.

When the time comes, turn off your phones and computers. Put a sign on the door if you live in a home with others. Take all of the things you need into your special place. Then, gently unwind and relax.

Do not stress about what is going on with your family or work. Just think about how beautiful the music is. Or, how the hot chocolate warms your belly. For the special time you have set aside, allow yourself to let go of everything else. It will all be waiting for you when you are done.

Setting aside time to relax is a rejuvenating experience. Once you have done it, you will be able to feel the difference in your level of stress and tension. Work an hour of quiet time into your routine at least once per week.

If at all possible, try to have some peaceful time there several times per week. Even if it  You will find that you are better able to focus your attention to other things once you are relaxed.
